How To Volunteer at TCTC for the Horses
General Information
There is no cost to come visit or learn to be a TCTC volunteer. Visitors must complete a Volunteer and Liability Form (insurance requirement) prior to their visit. TCTC volunteers invest themselves in helping the horses, dedicating themselves in self-directed/committed work respecting the animals and other people. TCTC prospers from everyone's energy and contributions, be they youthful, practical or financial. Our volunteer base includes families and “kids” (ranging from 6 to over 85 years old) who love to help, and benefit from, TCTC’s horses (and one miniature donkey), all rescued from death sentences due to trauma, abuse/neglect, maladies or age. TCTC provides them a lifetime home, and sanctuary to all. Volunteers interested in working directly with horses must participate in our safety and horsemanship coaching program, practice and master our training/ conditioning protocols. Kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. TCTC’s Coaches are experienced volunteers who help insure advancement in safety and proficiency. Coaches are available by appointment for $20/session, after the child has spent an hour, minimum, with parental supervision as needed, working "for the horses”. The fee gets paid directly to the coach to compensate them their time and gas coordinating and being here for the student, which is over and above all their regular TCTC volunteer work. Coaches are often teenagers who are proficient in TCTC’s training and are working on their leadership experiences to become Feeders, and/or Pony Camp Jr. Leaders (under 17 yrs. old); Sr. Leaders (legal to drive with passengers) or Interns (College - 25 years old) or Career Quests (Barn Management or paying jobs more befitting the career/job market of their choice, with portolios/experience and references for applications).
