We Care for Abused, Aging Horses

at our Forever Home

For over 18 years TCTC, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has committed to restoring and healing the lives of abused, neglected and forgotten horses while they empowered people by building community and knowledge. Our sanctuary provides acceptance, mutual support, respect and healing opportunities to train and educate the horses and people.

We work patiently with each horse to gently condition them with therapeutic techniques steeped in decades of equine experience.

While retraining we gain their trust and provide a safe, permanent home. We currently have ten horses and a donkey! We ask only light work suiting their individual needs and abilities . . . some exist specifically to love and support someone in dire emotional need.

Volunteer Program

At TCTC we train our volunteers (ranging in age from 4 - 87) in particular horsemanship skills modified for each horse. While learning these skills to groom, lead, condition, groundwork, ride or drive the horses, we maintain safe, secure, therapeutic space for people to interact with these beautiful animals. Many volunteers who come to us also need sanctuary, if for just a few hours a week. TCTC horses open "closed doors" by just being; teaching, distracting, befriending, comforting and listening... without scrutiny.

TCTC creates a sense of belonging for humans and horses alike. The outside of the horse is good for the inside of the person!

Our Community and Outreach Program

TCTC welcomes an inclusive, diverse community. Those moved to help our horses or seek respite from chronic illness, stress, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and/or just life's, challenges. TCTC empowers survivors of abuse, gender-based violence or bullying, youth refugees and asylum seekers, to OWN their recovery.  Those who have witnessed family members violently killed and now find themselves in an unfamiliar country;  adopted or fostered children removed from homes plagued by molestation, drug abuse, illegal trade or crime. TCTC's horses, access to nature, wildlife, adaptive care and mentorship for all ages fosters peace while building resilience, self-reliance, and life skills like reading, sequencing and leadership. Many volunteers have achieved goals while here that propel them into new careers and newfound peace or success. We support anyone who arrives to work here, honor our mission, achieve true healing, and experience an unconditionally loving community.

Our Workaway Cultural Exchange & Internship Programs

Workawayers are travelers seeking food and lodging from places they visit, with possibilities for social/cultural/language exchange or "safe harbor,' while working with positive energy, often during an educational "Gap" year, to earn "Badges" and "thumbs up" reviews from their hosts, who are reviewed by their workers. Workawayers strive to help hosts by using, or developing their expertise, and/or positive energy, doing useful tasks or projects while immersing themselves in a new culture.

CK, TCTC Volunteer

Thank you for being such a huge and instrumental part of my life. You have been a mentor, an inspiration, a teacher, a role model, a friend, a mother figure, a confidant, a care giver, and a steadfast encourager. You, Walt, and all of TCTC have been such a gift to me.
